In a similar vein, I found Code Complete enjoyable and enlightening back in the day. Both that and The Pragmatic Programmer are quite old now, but much remains relevant.

And Amazon is not the only place to look - both are likely available and cheaper second-hand.

I think it's the 20th anniversary edition - and not new now.

Yes, second hand is good - i think I got my copy from Oxfam, but abe or wob are all good...

Everyone just wants Claude to do it - which i think is a shame, and means that there will be software out there that no one understands.

Anything by Uncle Bob gets a too...

If AI was really thaaat good why are we not swamped by a never ending stream of software to do everything? If I were a professional programmer I'd be making software so fast that I would have programs to do pretty much anything and everything up for sale.

Not seeing it.....

I bought this a while back on your advice Martin. It is a really good book to read. It wont teach you how to program but more about your approach to programming and removing duplication and various other memory eating processes etc and is really easy to read.
