EB073 - Rotary Encoder Test File...

I bought the Rotary Encoder board last week but can't run the sample files from the site>
I think the idea is to turn the dial and something happens on the display.
They don't work in FC5.
Any ideas please???

Hi Sparkoids,
Have you checked your'e connections.
Have you checked the connections of you rotary encoder component.
Have configured your chip correctly
Have you made a one second flashing program to confirm that.
Do you have a supply voltage.
Do you get any output signal of the rotary encoder.
Hope this can help you,
Maybe you can provide me what type of controller you use and what clock frequency its running on.
Also upload or point me to the program youre using.
Is this the first time you are using flowcode?
Regards Jordy

Hi Jordy,
The test file doesn't run in Flowcode 5 at all. i want to start there first and then try the hardware...
I have uninstalled Flowcode 4 so can't check if it's a bug or not.
Can anyone with 5 minutes to spare try it please...

I can try for you to see if it runs here, report to you back in 5 min.

Oke this is what I found.
This example file works here on FC5 version 5.2
http://www.matrixmultimedia.com/resourc ... php?id=652
on the form here, you can find different examples.
let me know if this works for, if it doesn't work then we continue to work for a solution.

Hi Jordy,
Maybe it's me but the two graphical icons for the rotaries disappear when the simulation starts.
Is it supposed to do that please?
At least now I can see the number zero on the LCD so it's a start!
Am I correct to assume under simulation one can "turn" the dials with the icon and have the number change?

Hi James,
As far as I know the rotary encoder component doesn't currently simulate.

(Respectively)
Why not?
If it doesn't then why have the test file!!

The Test file is for the E-blocks hardware.

James,
Simulation isn't everything, personnaly I don't use the simulation very often.
If I was you I would just make a little program to start with and just look if you get the rotary encoder working despite of the simulation options.
For instance if you are working with a KS0108 display, there is no simulation either, white some logic thinking and math you can make something with and no simulation has been used.
Hope this helps you to continue with programming if you need any help with or whiteout the rotary encoder just let me / us know and we look into it and find a solution.
Regards Jordy

Hi James,
We decided to cut back on simulation a bit for the newer components in v5 because for v6 all of the components are fundamentally changing which means that any effort we put in to them now will essentially be lost. The upside to this is that components in v6 will have lots of advantages over the fixed set of components in v5. Cannot reveal too much at the moment but big changes are coming.

Ben,
You guys drive me bonkers! (In a nice way)...
Version 6?
You cannot just mention it then move on as if nothing was said!!!

Hi James,
Just wanted to provide an explanation as to why we had not provided full simulation support for the new components like rotary encoders. I think we will probably be releasing information soon but for now I don't want to say too much in case anything changes.
