PC Screen goes blank.

When i do a compile to chip, the PC screen goes blank.
It returns to normal when the process is almost completed.
I have just updated to version 6 and that is the same.
Do i need to uninstall version 5? I hope i do not have to do this.
I have just tried importing an old project into version 6 and it does not work as it should.
Also discovered the icd option no longer works in version 6.
Anyone had a silmilar problem?

Hi lungchard ,

I'M not a expert but to me it sounds like your PC has a graphics issue.

No that should not be necessary.
I have installed the following: Flowcode V3,v4,V5 and V6 at the same time and there is no conflicts caused.

Can you post an example please, as there is a patch to be released which hopefully will deal with the issue your referring to.

Hello.
I have not seen the blank screen issue before. At what stage exactly does the screen go blank. There is nothing much similar in v5 and v6 internally, I suspect it is something from the toolchains. What target does this happen on, all of them or just certain chips?
ICD is not working in 6.0 - I am hoping to get it working correctly very soon. We are releasing a patch on Monday and though ICD connects OK now I am not happy enough with it to release in this patch. When ICD is functional it is worth a patch in its own right though. The reason it is not functional yet is due to the inclusion of ICT which will show the states of the pins when using the EB006 v9 board. This and some changes to the USB comms meant that ICD needed some work.
Thanks,
Jonny

Oops sorry, my mistake.
I misread it as lcd not icd.
When I was referring to the patch I had LCD in my mind.

Hello Jonny/Martin,
Thanks for the response.
I have only 1688 and 1937 as supplied with your development board.
Screen goes blank as soon as you press compile to chip.
As Martin suggested, may be graphics problem but it did work before.
Will icd work with version 6 and a EB006 rev8 development board once you have the patch ready?
If not then i must keep version 5.
Best Regards
Richard Hogan.

Hi.
ICD will work on all versions in v6. The issue is the USB comms has changed for the v9 boards, and we need to support all devices. There are also issues with modifications - I would like to see if it is possible even with legacy (v8) boards to show local variable values, for example.
I suppose that when the screen goes blank if it is not crashing the system and returns afterwards it will be very difficult to remote debug the problem. It is possible there is some undocumented quirk on a particular system that is causing this when sub-processes are launched. We just found such a problem with licensing - you could not register Flowcode 6 if an administrator had previously changed your Windows account password. Windows is full of delights like this so it is possible.
I have seen the screen go blank on Windows Vista (I think) when trying to run admin mode stuff. If you have a trial version of Flowcode 6 you could try building an AVR or ARM flowchart and see if this has the same issue.
When you say it worked before, I would need much more info - when did it work, when did it stop, what has changed in the meantime, what Windows specs are you running and what graphics card.
Cheers,
Jonny

Hello Jonny,
Thanks for reply.
Just to clarify, when i first installed v5 on my home PC and laptop, both worked ok.
Home PC now has screen blanking issue but appears to work on both V5 and V6. Laptop still working fine on V5. Not upgraded it yet.
My home PC very occasionaly works if i unplug the USB cable and plug in again but this happens vary rarely.
I have not installed any other software recently so i think conflicts with other programs is unlikely.
It looks like something has happened to my home PC.
I may have to consider uninstalling both versions from home PC and re-installing V6.
I have the V6 install I downloaded a few days ago. Not sure if it a full install or it upgrades previous version, sharing some files with V5.
iF the download is a full install I should be able to un-install both versions and re-install V6. (I have PIC version with Pro option)
Could you confirm this is possible solution?
Best Regards
Richard.

Hi. I wouldn't be able to say for sure either way - it sounds like it may be something in the USB setup. Flowcode should not have the ability to blank the entire screen like that.
Flowcode 5 and 6 should install completely independently of each other. Truth be told Flowcode 6 does not really need an install, but this is just the convention. All it is doing really is copying files to the Program Files folder.
If you try it and it works then please let us know, it will be useful info, but I can't see this making a difference. It is more likely any drivers added that would have this effect.

Hello Jonny,
Tried re-install but no sucess.
One thing i can add is the screen goes blank (except for cursor in top left corner and mouse pointer is a small white box) when i try compile to hex.
Not sure if this is significant or not.
Bset Regards
Richard.
