I have recieved a USB version 3 development board from a friend and I cannot get it to work, PPP can see what type of board it is but will not recognise the chips I am using, I have tried several chips including several 16F84 which are definately not faulty and still no response.
Because of this I cannot program the chips, it kicks out an error saying it cannot erase the chip or cannot program, even if I tell it what chip it is using.
I am using the very latest PPP software and I have installed the very latest USB drivers and as you can tell, the board is recognised by PPP. Also the firmware of the board cannot update as I recieve an error message for that. Is this a telltale sign of a broken chip?
I have never used the version 3 boards but have 2 years experience using version 2 at the University of Huddersfield.
If you think you can help or even if you are having similar problems please post here or send an email to ellisplace@gmail.com. Thanks for any assistence in advance.

Are you using a power supply? The 84 needs 13V available for reprogramming (and even detection), so you cannot reprogram this chip with just a usb cable.
Note also that the 84 does not have embedded ID information, so PPP cannot recognise it. However, PPP should still be able to erase and reprogram it.
The 84a does have an ID, and so this can be detected by PPP.

I have the same problem - it won't recognise the chip. I'm using an EB006 development board

Hello
What jumper settings are you using and what is the rating of your power supply?
