some quetions..please help me..due date of this project is28

i have some questions ... please i have a project which due date is 28/4/2009 
1-when i use ADC .. waht value of Aref voltage sould be connected to tis pin?
2-i want to know how to create variables that doesn't destroied in memory after excution of maros ... i mean global variables ?
3-i want to know how to use timers other than timer 0 .. i can see only timer 0 overflow interrupt in ATMEG8535 pic and 16f77 pic .. i know they have 3 timers ... so how ??!!! VERY IMPORTANT
4- when the tier begins to count ... i think when the code passes over timer int block .. am i right ???
5-What is the difference between ADC component and thermometer component.. ???
