When starting the flowchart simulation the Variables and Macro stacks are unavailable (see picture). It happens in BOTH Windows 7 AND in Windows XP. Current version is 4.2.3.58.

It's not a bug. You need to go to 'View' and 'Project Options' Select a slower simulation speed.
Variables or macros are not shown when simulation speed is set to 'As fast as possible' (only shown by pressing 'pause')
Alternately with simulation stopped or on pause just keep F8 key held down to run simulation
I believe it is done like that since displaying updated variables would slow simulation speed down a lot.
Tip when you want to add variables to watch, just pause simulation, Right click in variables window, then select 'Add Variable'
The selection variables can be treated the same files in windows explorer.
i.e
1) If you hold 'Ctrl' key down the just click on individual variables you want.
2) If you want a group of variable which are all together in a group, just use left or right mouse buttons to select first variable and keep button held down, then drag mouse over the variables you require.
Finally with all variables highlighted, just click 'Use Variable'
