pic18 LF support?

Post by andyj »

Hello there, I was wondering if I can use a PIC18LF4685 with the EB006 dev board? I can't get PPP to detect the chip. The board has been working fine for other PICs. The LF should be identical to the F, except it has a wider operating voltage window. Any ideas? I really need to get this chip working, have a work project to do on it. Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I've just tried programming a 18F4685 here and it is working well. Just to be sure please can you ensure you are using the latest PPP. The up to date files are available from here.

If tupdating the files doesn't work for you then which version of the EB006 are you using?

Hi,

I forget to change the LVP jumper! Such a stupid mistake, but its working fine now.

Though I was using quite an ancient version of PPP, so good to be running the latest one.

Thanks. Its nice to get this chip working, I think its the most powerful pic18 that can run on the MM boards, is this correct? Its certainly a huge improvement over the pic16's I have been using for projects.

Hello,

The 18F4685 can run at speeds up to 40MHz. Whereas the USB enabled PIC 18 devices can run up to 48MHz to allow for a throughput of 12MIPs.

PIC18s are very good after working with the 16 series devices though the indirectly adressable memory can be a bit tricky to get your head around. EG as used by the USB and CAN components.
