Upgrade to v5

Post by dbasnett »

I have a registered version of FC v4 that I purchased via download. It seems to get the discount for v5 I have to put in the CD code or the License key. How do I find those?

Got it. Thanks.

Will this upgrade V4 or will I have both versions available?

Hello,

You will be able to use both versions independently.

Just be careful when opening a v4 file with v5 as if you save in v5 then you will not be able to re-open in v4.

Just to expand on this, once a V4 program has been opened in V5 and subsequently saved, the new FCF file will only be loadable in V5. But in case you ever need to work with the original V4 program again, Flowcode will automatically save a backup of the FCF file called something like "myfile.fcf.001". There may be an additional copy called something like "myfile.fcf.v31" - this is an automatic backup whenever there is a change in the save file format (which sometimes happens between minor releases).

But remember that these automatic backups will be the original V4 program, so any changes you make the the program in V5 will not be made to these backup files too.

What if I copy the v4 file to a different location and use that. Seems like that would take care any issues. Of course there is the problem of remembering...

No problem whatsoever. But there is no need to even do this because Flowcode will automatically save a backup that can be opened in V4.

The only issue will be if you continue to edit a program in V5 and then try to open it again in V4. This simply cannot be done.
