change to FC5 with no luck

Post by AndreasR »

Hi there,
very strange problem comes up and i don´t know how to resolve.
- I have a small program build in FC4 with a pic 16F887.
- Compiled with the last FC4
- programmed with a TAIT Programmer
- every thing works fine

- loaded the FC4 code into FC5
- changed nothing
- compiled to hex
- programmed with the same TAIT Programmer
- nothing works :(

I am quite unable to see where the reason is.
Is it a wrong configuration pack in FC5?

I post this into the FC4 Forum, because i don´t have the permission to post in FC5.

Hi Andreas

As a first thought, what version of FC5 are you using?

Some of the more advanced components only work in the Pro Version.
This post explains what the free version is able to use. If using the free version you can post in that section.

We need a bit more information as to the nature of the problem to help you further.

Hi John,
sorry for my small pack of information.
I use the registred PRO version of FC5.
Version is 5.1.0.0
Yes i know it´s not the latest version.
My problem is that i built a program which is is used in production environment and i have to change a bit in the code.

Hi Andreas,

If you have a look at the generated C files of both Flowcode4 and Flowcode5, look out for the configuration part.
E.g
Config settings.png
(13 KiB) Downloaded 3560 times
If configuration has been set.
Configuration will be blank if no settings are altered from default value.

If configuration settings are the same in both C files, then If your flowcharts are not commercially sensitive, then can you post your V4 and V5 flowcharts so someone can see if they can determine what's going wrong.

Hi Martin,
ok the configs are identical. :?
Please have a look to the attached Flowcharts and give me a hint.
Thx,
Andreas

Good morning.

Can you expand on what does not work please? I do not have the HW here but it could be, for example, that the Init_RF_Module() may not be completing, though there are no loops in this code I can see.

I'm afraid I am not the expert in this area - Ben would know better than I do but is out of the office today. What I suggest is to ensure that the LCD is working OK and use this to report progress by adding LCDDisplay::PrintASCII('1'), LCDDisplay::PrintASCII('2')... before and after each call to components.

Alternatively use the LEDs to set or clear at points in your code to indicate progress as this requires no setup.

I can not see any problem with the flowchart you have that would cause it to fail, you have set your config and there is nowhere that could be sitting in a tight loop, so I can only assume the issue is with one of the components. The only one I have not used to extent in v5 is the RF.

At a guess, as there is no feedback if nothing is received on the RF, the problem is that RF::Receive_Byte() is not picking up the bytes correctly, which would make the program appear to be completely dead. Is setting SPI communications for this component to hardware an option?

Please let us know what stage in execution the program is failing and hopefully this will help track down the issue.

Cheers,

Jonny

Hi Jonny.
The facts are:
If i compile the Flowchart to HEX with FC4 and program it to the PIC 16F887 every thing works fine.
The Chip runs and the software is doing what i want.

But if i compile the same Flowchart in FC5 to HEX program it to the PIC nothing works.
The Display is not initialised and the LEDs and a Buzzer will not signal.

Please remember, the whole program works since August 2011, where i built it with FC4.

Setting SPI to hadware is not an option, because i have build 10 complete circuit boards and my client only wants small changes in the code.

Now i will change to FC5 which seems to be much better than FC4.
Because i made absolute no modification in the code the reason for this strange phenomenon must exist in the macros.

Hope you know what i have done and you understand my problems. :?

Hi could you try the following, open your hex code in ppp (ppp is found in your flowcode v5 tools folder create a shortcut to the desktop) and check the config and device are correct, resave if you make changes then programme the nex hex and see if that works as ive had a couple of instances where for some reason the config has changed before programming hth

Hi Dazz,
sorry for my late Answer.
My project is NOT a private one so i had to produce a systems that works first and second i play around with FC5.
Definitely it is a bug in FC5.
I updated to latest Version 5.2.0.0 annd controled the config section of the code.
Changed absolute nothing in the source code.
Compiled to C with FC5. No error
Compiled to hex with FC5. No error.
Programmed the hex code to the chip.
Absolute nothing works.
The system ist not running. :x

Take the FC4 code.
Compiled to C with FC4
Compiled to hex with FC4
Programmed the Chip.
System works fine. :)

This is not a good token for confidence to FC5.

I will post this issue to the FC5 Forum and will see what the Matrix staff will do to solve this aggravating problem.
