'Could not ID the onboard chip' Help please

Post by B4rzan »

Hi,

I have a matrix multimedia development system. I am using EB006-00-7 multiprogramming, external power 13.5v. Whenever
I try auto detecting the pic, I get the error message 'Could not ID the onboard chip'. This occurs with my PIC18F4520 microcontroller, otherwise it works
fine with PIC16.

Thanks for you're help

I am very much familiar with this issue..You can follow the following steps..
1. Only one 18fxxxx chip in the programmer and no other module connected in PORTA,B,C,D & E.
2. Disconnect USB from port and re-connect again..turn power on.
3. Try auto detect from Build>Project Options>Configure Chips...if still says 'Could not ID the on board chip' go step 4
4. In the attachment you will see three dpinst file for your case it might be dpinst_x86. Run that (in windows 7 run as administrator) and install driver again..If dpinst_x86 shows error try other two..one of the three should work on your machine.
5. Retry step 3..if detected you are ready to go. If not uninstall pppv3 and remove driver from device manager and restart your machine and install pppv3 and driver try step 3 to 4. It should be work :)
