HP488 Test Program

Post by JohnCrow »

Ive just received my Version3 Dev board
The test program does not seem to be working properly

When i run it
Bits A7 A6 A5 are off
A4 Flickers
B7 Flashes slowly
B6 & B5 flash quickly

Rest of the leds are on and stable
This is running on your psu

Im am using the latest versions of software download from your web site
Set up as per the data sheet. Ive not changed any other links from the default settings as when it was delivered

Oh, the leds come on if i press the button on the relevent port.

Have i a faulty board or is it a set up problem.

Hello John,

A5, 6 and 7 are not connected to anything, so they should always be off. It is also normal for the LEDs to come on when the button is pressed.

But the other LEDs seem to be behaving oddly. I have sent you a simple "chaser" program for you to download - please tell me how this program behaves.

Ok thanks
I'll try it tonight when i get home from work

Am i right in thinking then, that what it says it the data sheet about the test program illuminating all 16 leds is wrong, and the ones that dont come on is correct.

Sorry for the confusion - I did not know which test files you were refering to.

The program "f_test_1" shows a binary counter on ports a and b. This binary counter is going quite fast, so you would see A4 and B4 flickering. B5, B6 and B7 would be flickering progressively slower (i.e. B6 and B7 look like they are flashing).

From what you describe, it sounds like the program is working correctly.

The program "f_test_2" performs a "sweep" across all of the LEDs [this is run in RC mode].
