GSM/GPRS

Post by electron67 »

Hello, Good morning,

We can find with flowcode the network that uses a GSM / GPRS module 2G, 3G, 4G :?:

Thanks
Enrique

Hi Enrique,

I have experience with the SIM800 GSM/GPRS module and can confirm it works well with Flowcode.

Hello Benj

In fact I am working with the SIM800L, it works perfectly with Flowcode and with the GPS NEO6, I want to make some circuits with these components, but I can not find a data sheet, in some pages they say that the SIM800L only works with the 2G network but in other stores that sell the product, it says in its data sheet that if it works in 2G and 3G and by comments from people in the field of communications they tell me that are going to eliminate the 2G network and that the 3G and 4G networks are the ones that are going to be valid, I have no experience in this field;

If is eliminate the 2G network, the SIM800L will continue to work in 3G or 4G :?:

How to know that a GPS / GPRS component is working in the 2G or 3G or 4G network in practice with Flowcode :?:

Thanks
Enrique

Hi Enrique,

I'm no expert in this field but I think the following applies.

GPRS is the data connection on the cell phone networks.

2G is the name given to the connection which had a fixed performance, e.g. you could get a certain amount of data through it in a certain time frame.

3G was an improvement on 2G but is essentially the same thing and completely backward compatible.

4G is again an improvement on 3G and again backwards compatible.

So if the device supports GPRS then it will use whatever is available on the local cell tower 2G, 3G or 4G.

5G is meant to be coming out soon and this again will be an improvement which will continue to work with everything that came before.

Life (as always) is a bit more complicated...

While the module might be able to communicate with an 3G and/or 4G network because of backward compatibility of the network, carriers use different frequencies for the different technologies. And the SIM800L supports (just) 4 frequencies. datasheet
So you will need to check if your provider offers service on the frequencies the module supports.
