HP299

Post by wayne millard »

Hi Team,

I have tried to use the HP299 with a HP488 development board. i have tried using as per the data sheet.
What settings should be used as comms speed. do you need to wire to port B RB6, RB7 and do they connect to the small D-type PCB socket header 6, 7 and GND.
The data sheet is not much help as all screen dumps are out of date and software defalt comms speed is set to 9 and in the drop down starts at 20.
Need Help :o

Hi Wayne,

Sorry for the confusion.

The ICD comms speed should be automatically calculated by Flowcode based on your target clock speed. If you are in doubt you can increase the number a bit to increase the communication timeout delays though this shouldn't be required.

You will need to connect the two ICD pins (ICDD and ICDC) and the Ground pin from your HP299 to the pins on the HP488 board. If your using the default I/O of PortB 6 and 7 then you can use the screw terminal J12 at the top right of the board to wire the connections. Remember to keep the cable connections short say less then 10cm to help eliminate reflections and noise being picked up.

Let me know how you get on.

Hello Wayne,

Have you got two USB cables running from your PC? One for the HP299 and one for the HP488.

When you say red LEDs do you mean those on the HP488 or those on the underside of the HP299?

Does the program run correctly on the HP488 when you disable ICD mode in Flowcode?

Hi Benj,
I have a usb lead from PC to HP299 board and a usb lead from the HP299 to the HP488.
The red leds i mean the leds on the bottom of the HP299 ICD board when the metal of the selector switch on the ICD is touched in program mode.
Yes the program works without the ICD.
Im test it just by flashing a led on for one second then off for one second.

Thanks

Hi Benj,

I have got it working now i have to use the little D-Type PCB plugged onto PortC and set the settings in the ICD settings to PortC 6,7
and all works now. will not work on any other ports A or B 6, 7
It seems to need both usb's plugged in to the PC and not PC to ICD and ICD to Development board it dont seem to work for me.

Thanks For the Help

Hi BenJ,

It seems to work on ports that dont have components that are connected to the pic. ie Ports C, D

Hi Wayne,

The USB out connection on the HP299 is purely for our ECIO or MIAC devices to allow them to be debugged directly via their USB connection.

For other devices eg the HP488 plugging the USB connection from the HP299 to the HP488 will cause the ICD signals to be corrupted by the USB chip on the HP488 meaning ICD will not work.

Glad you have it working correctly now.
