USB Lead review

Post by Steve001 »

Whilst recovering in hospital after an operation and reading a magazine article about a google engineer that was testing type c usb 3 cables and writing detailed reviews on amazon.

The testing came to abrupt halt when a faulty cable was plugged in and fried his chromebook pixel .
It appears that two of the internal wires where connected to the wrong connector the (vbus) wire was connected to the (data gnd) and left the tester with 3 dead pieces of equipment .

After stripping down the connector’s he also found that an incorrect resistor was also used within the assembly. And although advertised as a “high speed” usb 3.1 cable it didn't have the correct number of wires to make it run at high speed.

Hi Steve,

Wishing you a fast recovery. Hope everything is ok.

I find Amazon do have some incredibly shoddy items in their listings. Seems to be far worse than even eBay these days. I tend to make it my business to write a review if I end up buying something that's not quite as advertised or purposely misleading.

Anyway, I'll have a read when I get a minute, thanks for sharing.
