USB Serial Driver Problem (PIC18F4550)

Post by RayJim »

I am setting up a CAN bus to PC node using Flowcode version 4, to develop a serial link to control hardware on the Bus, I am using a PIC18F4550 with USB serial driver generated with the Flowcode USB serial component and using the default VID and PID. On connecting the USB interface the driver is not recognised with the USB connection wizard. I have tried down loading and installing the updated USB driver pack but still get the same problem on compiling the code.

Hello

You need to generate a driver from the Flowcode USB component to match your specific USB device settings. You can do this via the USB serial properties.

Once you have done this go into device manager, right click the device and select update driver. Then specify the location as the location that you saved the driver .inf file to and the driver should install correctly.

You say you are having a problem on compilation? Do you mean compilation or in driver installation? If you do mean compilation then what error messages are you getting. It may help for you to attach your program if you are having compile errors.

Hi Ben,

I still continue to have trouble with USB driver, when I try to install the driver using control panel and update driver I get the following message:- “Specified location does not contain information about your hardware” also Widows does not recognise the device and the message “Unknown device one of the devices connected has malfunctioned or windows does not recognise it”

I down loaded the driver for the PIC18F4550 from the forum and found it identical to my driver.

I am using a Microchip demo hardware which works when original firmware is restored; the demo board is the MCP2515 DM-BM.

I have attached the USB demo programme and driver.

Hello,

I see the problem. It is the configuration setting for the chip.

If you click on Chip -> Configure and then switch to expert then you will get the configuration for the 18F4550.

You will need to change the following values.

CPU Sys CLK Select - no divide
OSC Select - div by 5 20MHz Input
Watchdog Timer - Disabled
Low Voltage Program - Disabled
Extended CPU enable - Disabled

Then click ok and recompile to your device and the driver should then install correctly.
