FC 4 IS NOT WORKING WELL WITH VISTA

Hi,

I have been using the FC4 until the last week when the program crashed with the message showed in the attached file. Can some body tell me what is going on?

Hello,

Which version of FLowcode v4 are you running. We recommend upgrading to version 4.3. I the problem still persists then let us know and we will look into it for you.

Hello Ben,

I red your reply and I have comments about it.

1. The hotffix suggestion is addressed to Windoows XP and my OS is Vista so I could not do anything.
2. The link is oriented to fix problems with FC version 3 and mine is FC version 4.

Anyway I downloaded the tool to uninstall the tool which monitors the activities for X2 AMD processor (as indicated in the link you sent me) and the propblem still persist so Ben I really need your help with urgency because I need to use tthe software again and I cannot acces it and I relly do not know why becuase the software was working fine and suddenly failed.

A few questions regarding your install.

a) what processor do you have? Is it the X2 AMD?
b) is your Flowcode installed in the default location or a custom one?
c) When does it crash? Is it as it looks and it crashes on opening and does not get any further than the welcome screen?

Something you can try is to boot into Safe Mode and try running Flowcode there and see if that works.

Are you running a dual core CPU? Could this possibly be the problem as shown in the previous FAQ topic. There should be a Microsoft Hotfix for Vista also.

Hi David and Ben,

I did what you told me. I opened the application in SAFE MODE and the program did it well until I called an application from the file and then a new error screen appeared but I guess that happened because I was in SAFE MODE. So according with this what is the next step I must follow to?

Try disabling UAC.

a. Click on Start
b. Click on Control Panel
c. Click on User Accounts and Family Safety
d. Click on User Accounts
e. Click on "Turn User Account Control On or Off"
f. Click on Continue
g. Uncheck "Use User Control" then click ok
h. Run the program

I followed all steps you gave me, and the problem still persist the only difference is in SAFE MODE. The application opened and I could simulate 2 archives fine.
So what could be the problem?

Because it is working with safe mode it is quite likely that another program is preventing it from writing to the part of the memory in the error.

One cause of this could be antivirus software.

Please could you try and uninstall (not disable, that doesnt fully stop the all the AV working) your antivirus software and then retry Flowcode.

Note: If you feel unsafe disconnect the computer from the internet while you do not have an AV installed.

Macafee is a know trouble causer and is seen by most IT professionals as malware. Just to let you know. AVG is much better and also free This is simply my opinion.

OK. Ben I have two questions.

1.I tried the same vesion of Flow Code I have in other machine but in this case the OS is WINDOWS 7 64 bits home premiun this machine has installed the same McAfee licence software installed in the VISTA machine and the program worked fine. Unfortunately that is not my computer but all worked fine, so. Is it possible that the problem must be the OS?, Can I block the antivirus while I work with the Flow code? (according with your comment respect deactivating the McAfee) more efficiently with out unistall it

2.If not, Can I work in safe mode? and then run my desings there?

Basically safe mode disables all non-necassary programs and services and just loads the ones windows requires to work.

There is something on your machine which is stopping Flowcode writing to the memory, the most likely candidate for this is an Anti-virus software.

What you could do is "Run" msconfig and disable mcafee on startup and see if that works, again this may not work depending on the antivirus program, it may have defences against this type of disabling. Your best bet is to uninstall it and see if that works. Just have the install .exe and Serial number for the antivirus program and it should be easy enough to uninstall and reinstall.

If you do uninstall it I would advise using an uninstaller tool which most Antivirus companies provide, either do a google search for Mcafee removal tool or visit their website.

I have not posted any messages in this forum since a couple of weeks becuase I wated to verify the problem I have with WIN VISTA.

I want to share what I experienced all these days. I had no problems, no messages or similars working with WIN 7, the antivirus (exactly the same in the WIN VISTA machine) does not blocked the application I could worked fine.

I guess the problem is not the antivirus. So I wanted to let you know becuse I think the origin of these problem must be find it. So please let know what you think or if you need more details.

I regularly use Flowcode on Vista without problems.

Have you tried uninstalling the anti-virus software? Also, you could try turning off DEP (data execution prevention) for the Flowcode exe.

ANother thing to try is to run Flowcode with XP compatibility settings.

Hello, in Vista you go to Control Panel >> System >> Advanced system Settings (top left) >> under Performance click Settings >> then click on the DEP tab

Make sure the "Turn on DEP for essential windows programs only" is pressed and not the other one.

This may not be the cause, but people should be aware of.
I was getting a similar error, but it was my fault for copying and pasting formulas from one calculation box to another.
Flow code was running a simulation normally, then after adjusting Ctl pot would stop at the same point and crash with error as shown in the attachment
This was the cause of the error: (Ctrl>42) AND (Ctrl<53) (Ctrl<25) AND (ADC1<255) which was placed in a decision box.
There is nothing in between 2nd and 3rd brackets. What I should of has was: Ctrl>42) AND (Ctrl<53) only

After removing (Ctrl<25) AND (ADC1<255) no more crashing.
With your Flowcode, rather than just running it, try complying to hex, and see if you get any errors.
In my case I got

I used the David's comment (DEP) located in the control panel and nothing happened. Then I searched in internet and I found this explanation that cuold helsp in many cases.

Tha action is pointed for use in WINDOWS VISTA (more excatly the bcdedit.exe).

1. START MENU
2. RUN
3. TYPE CMD
3. CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER (TO ACCES AS ADMINSTRATOR)
4. WRITE THIS COMMAND bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff
