Print a flowchart for publication purposes

Post by jandidden »

I'm working on a technical article that will have to include some FC flowcharts.
I was wondering if there is an FC option somewhere to print a flowchart?
I would 'print to PDF' to get pub quality illustrations; screen shots are generally too limited in resolution for that purpose.
Is there some (hidden) function to print a flowchart?

Flowcharts can be saved as a PNG, JPG or BMP. None of these are vector format. You can improve the quality of the image export by first zooming the view of the flowchart to 200% (the maximum).

@stefan.erni, yes that works. The HTML output appears to be vector based (no pixelation when zooming) but I don't see a way to import that into Word. I need to look into that, if possible that would be ideal.

Edit: Yes that works, you can import an HTML into Word, but for some reason a FC comes across at about 60 inch x 60 inch!
Setting the size down to 10% or so makes it manageable.
You can save individual flowcharts but only as .png.

@Steve-Matrix zooming will probably not work for me as the FC already fills the screen as it is. But will look into it.

Hi Jan,

For large images have you tried using Paint 3D to resize it ?
Unfortunately microsoft removed it from windows 11 but you can still download it from microsoft web site.

Autocad inventor outputs where 10000 x 10000 and it handled these with ease. The output can be changed to most image formats also.

Hi Jan
if you load the HTML in Chrome, Click on the flowchart you are interested in, it will convert it to a large png. on a separate tab.
Click on the three dots on the top right of Chrome, select Print.
Within Destination, select Save as pdf.
You then have a zoomable pdf file.

If you are on a pc a really great free (as in beer) image viewer and editor is FastStone. Been using it for years. It's awesome.
