>>frame round<< Dual-in-line IC's

A wide variety of different packages are used for integrated circuits. However one of the most popular types of package is the plastic dual-in-line (DIL) package used by the two devices pictured here. One of these devices is supplied in an 8-pin package whilst the other has 14-pins. Other popular DIL packages have 16, 18, 20, 28 and 40 pins.

>>frame round<< TO5

The TO5 package is used for both transistors and integrated circuits. This TO5 packaged device is a wideband integrated circuit amplifier. The device is used for wideband and video applications.

>>frame round<< Three-terminal Voltage Regulator

Despite the fact that it only has three leads, this device is actually an integrated circuit which contains nearly thirty active devices (transistors and diodes). The integrated circuit is used as a fixed voltage regulator which provides a closely regulated output of 5V at load currents of up to 1A.

>>frame round<< EPROM

This integrated circuit is an erasable programmable read-only memory (EPROM). It uses a 28-pin DIL package and the active semiconductor area can be exposed to ultraviolet light in order to erase the memory prior to reprogramming. The memory contains a total of 65,536 individual memory cells each of which is capable of storing a logic '0' (off) or logic '1' (on) state.

>>frame round<< PLCC VLSI Chip

This very large scale integrated circuit, or VLSI circuit, is supplied in a plastic leadless chip carrier (PLCC). The chip contains several tens of thousands of transistors which perform the complex logic operations required in a modern personal computer.
