Software Assurance was first introduced into Flowcode 11. Here are some answers to any frequently asked questions you may have:
What is Software Assurance?
Flowcode's Software Assurance scheme allows users to keep their version of Flowcode fully up-to-date. Flowcode users who have a current Software
Assurance will receive all updates. This includes new features, new components and new target devices, as well as fixes and other updates.
Software Assurance covers the main Flowcode package as well as the library updates (components, etc).
Do I have to have Software Assurance to use Flowcode?
An initial purchase of Flowcode includes 12 months of free Software Assurance, meaning that any updates will be available during this time.
After this period, you can choose to renew your Software Assurance for a further 12 months.
Will Flowcode stop working if I do not renew Software Assurance?
When you purchase Flowcode you receive a perpetual licence, meaning that Flowcode will continue to work even after Software Assurance has ended.
However, software updates will only be available for users with current Software Assurance. This will include new components, target chips and features
within Flowcode itself.
We may provide certain fixes for Flowcode for users without Software Assurance, but most updates and fixes will be available only
with current Software Assurance.
How much will it cost?
The cost of Software Assurance for Flowcode is calculated as 35% of the current value of your Flowcode licence.
So if you have purchased Flowcode v11 with a value of £200, then the annual payment for Software Assurance will be £70.
And this annual payment will be due only after the first 12 months, and then only if you wish to keep Flowcode up-to-date and
take advantages of any fixes, improvements, new features/components, etc.
How do I renew my Software Assurance?
Software Assurance can be renewed up to 1 month before the end of the current Software Assurance period. You should receive an email reminder around this time.
To renew your Software Assurance, please visit the Buy Flowcode page and click the 'Renew Software Assurance' button.
How can I find out when Software Assurance runs out?
The Software Assurance date is shown on the main screen when you run Flowcode. This is the date when the current Software Assurance for Flowcode will expire.
This date is in the form YYYY-MM-DD. For example, 2027-01-18 means Software Assurance will expire on the 18th of January 2027.
This date can also be seen on your Flowcode Account page and on the Buy Flowcode page when
you are logged in to this website.
My Software Assurance has expired. How can I renew it so I can receive updates again?
Once Software Assurance has expired, you will need to re-purchase Flowcode again to get the latest version and rejoin the Software Assurance scheme.
If your Software Assurance has just expired and you have forgotten to renew, there will be a short grace period of a few days when you can renew.
Why have you moved to a Software Assurance model?
The main reason for us moving to a Software Assurance model is because our previous model of major releases every 2 years or so forces us to concentrate
on adding significant new features to Flowcode and actually what we really want to do is improve the general usability.
Software Assurance allows us to provide more continual updates to the product that is currently being used, so improvements will be available to users
much quicker (rather than waiting for a new major release).
When will version 12 of Flowcode be released?
We currently have no plans to release a new major version 12 of Flowcode. All of our development effort is planned toward improving v11.
And the development time going into the core of Flowcode remains the same, meaning that in a few years time Flowcode will gain as much improvement as a new v12 would have seen.
