HOLTEK HT16K33 - seven 7 segment features

Hi FC Team,
The HOLTEK HT16K33 has an existing component in FC for controlling LED grid arrays.
Could this component be updated to allow easy use with common Seven Segment Displays?
This Chip seems to be very common as a backpack for driving 7 segment digit arrays.

PLaying with the existing Component and an HT16K33 based seven segment 4 digit display, I can get all of the elements to display but easily defining individual numbers is a bit tricky.

I think the sticking point in changing the existing component is that each 7 segment manufaturer could use the ROW and Common pins in differnet combinations for each digit, some add the decimal for each digit or even use a whole column for just the center : on seven segment clock examples.

Is this a do able request maybe?
