First of all, thank you Steve and Martin for your honest responses.
That said, I can’t help but point out that the sense of community here feels quite limited. It’s hard to deny that only a handful of people are actively responding to almost all posts on the forum. That’s not exactly a healthy dynamic in the long run.
Of course, I understand that not everyone is an expert in everything, and no one can be expected to drop everything to support other users’ projects. But sometimes, just a small sign of life would go a long way. There are threads that get zero replies. Sure, that happens, but it’s becoming a pattern. Even a short response like “this isn’t a priority,” or “we don’t see this going anywhere,” or “we don’t (yet) have the expertise for this” would already send a much better message.
Right now, it sometimes feels like what Martin wrote — “Tell them we are dead” — sadly hits too close to the truth. And honestly, that’s not the most user-friendly impression to give.
Just to be clear: I do care about Matrix. I’ve made modest contributions in the past, so I’m not just standing on the sidelines. But in my view, a strong project deserves a strong and well-tended community — and that’s an area where there’s room for improvement.

... And yes, it would be good if others contributed more - and keep a more dynamic conversation going rather than getting an answer and then disappearing....
Not sure how to encourage that though - maybe small prizes for 'project of the month' ?
