Connecting to ECIO 28p

Post by CMoore »

When I plug into my ECIO 28p my laptop does not register that a device has been connected, I am unsure as to why this is happening does anyone have any ideas?

Hi.
If the LED on the ECIO is flashing when you plug in the USB, then it means the drivers are not installed.
if that is the case then you can get the driver from here.
You must extract all the files from the correct zip file, before running the Driver Installation file for your operating system.

If the LED is solidly lit then the correct drivers are installed and you should see Custom USB Device briefly appear within the device manager every time the tactile switch is pressed and then released.

When you compile to the ECIO then a pop-up stating No device detected.
That is normal as it's waiting for you to press the tactile button on the ECIO.

Hi

I got one of those last year. Not had time to play with it really.

On my W7 laptop I installed drivers but although the laptop made the "connection" noise soon after it was plugged in, it then made the "disconnect" pretty much straight after and at no time can I see anything under device manager. When plugged in the onboard LED remains solid.

In FC9 I don't see anything under programmer port. However if I create a chart, save and compile to target, once it gets to "Launching Programmer" and the title of the Hex file is displayed, if I push the reset button on the ECIO28 (putting it into bootloader) it loads fine.

HTH

Hi

I don't see any com port appear at all in W7. I might try W8.1 later tonight, but as I'm staring at a nice Rioja at present, probably not <s>

Whilst plugged in, does the led flash if the reset button is pushed (as per Martin's reply)? If so then you can probably compile to chip. Make up a little test chart such as a flasher and see if it downloads.

Another suggestion to see if ECIO28 is being seen by windows.
Run mLoader found in:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Flowcode v9\data\tools\mLoader
I have a ECIO40.
When I plug it in to my PC It shows:
mLoader with ECIO40 connected.png
mLoader with ECIO40 connected.png (67.67 KiB) Viewed 5839 times
With ECIO40 unplugged I get:
mLoader with ECIO40 unplugged.png
mLoader with ECIO40 unplugged.png (56.13 KiB) Viewed 5839 times
I know you have the ECIO28, but they should act the same, except mine shows 18F4455 and yours will show a different target device.

Sometimes the popup that shows No device detected, does not get focus.
What you could do is watch the compiler messages and press the switch when you see:
Launching the programmer
If you can't get Flowcode to program the ECIO28 then mLoader can do it for you.
You just need to remember to click on Execute after ECIO has been programmed.

Hi

As I can download OK from within FC (albeit by pressing reset) I never looked at mLoader but good suggestion. I might try that too just to see, well after the Rioja.... :)

Hello,

My mLoader does not register that my chip has been connected at all, hit a bit of a wall to be honest cant see what it could be apart from a faulty ECIO 28p

Hi

Stupid question and sorry to ask, but have you tried another USB patch lead?
