As Ben says, it looks like it is just a UART to Fiber converter. It does look interesting but there are no details of the distance it can send over which would be more important for me..

Hi
Probably not difficult at all to interface to.
It uses plastic fibre which will have a loss of around a db/m, yep, per metre. Connector loss will be around 5db assuming you make a good connection and have a sharp Stanley
Most likely application would be in a noisy environment or when electrical isolation is crucial, and then over short distance.
A major issue is that it is multimode, so your led beam takes multiple paths within the fibre thereby elongating the pulse width, compounded by length. This reduces the maximum bit rate as decision circuits don't know if it is a 1 or 0 due to bleeding. You send 1 but as the pulse is elongated it is now stretched into the next time slot causing confusion.
At ten metres I am guessing your signal would be 100th of the transmit power, so you may get a usable 20m, but of course depends on quality of plastic, connection, led/diode combination, bit rate and fibre installation (avoid tight bends).
I would be interested in hearing how you get on.
