In order to cover the full range of resistance values using resistors having a ±20% tolerance, six basic values, known as the E6 series, are provided. More values are available in the E12 series which offers a tolerance of ±10%. The E24 series for resistors of ±5% tolerance provides no less than 24 basic values. In all three cases, decade multiples of the basic series are available (i.e., x1, x10, x100, x1k, x10k, x100k and x1M).
